Today, this is one of Tony Fisher's classic Skewb modifications. It is a simple concept in theory, but difficult to visualize and create by hand. Tony Fisher created this variation in the mid-late 1990s. It is a Skewb variation where the parts are only extended with no truncation of the original parts.
Following the same logic and applying it to a 3x3x3 rhombic dodecahedron, we get a Case cube. In 2023, a mass-produced version of this cube hit the market under the name "Grid Skewb," which was legitimized after the fact.
